The adventure of the Great Commission, people coming to Christ and living out their faith and calling. These are the visions that keep us going, the pictures we can see with the eyes of our hearts, if not yet with our own eyes. We get glimpses, tastes, enough to keep us going and give us hope, but we do not yet see the full fruition of all the potential we know is out there. Why not? We’ve prayed. We’ve called on the Holy Spirit. We’ve attended seminars. We’ve read books. We’ve adopted strategies. Yet challenges and obstacles along the way prevent our vision from materializing. What is missing?
What is missing is ministry coaching. A ministry coach is someone who walks alongside you to help you find God’s will for your life and ministry, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, helps that vision to become a reality. A ministry coach does not have all the answers, but they help you listen and find the answers that God is giving you.
With coaching, we gain the traction and momentum in our ministry to transform lives. A coach helps us find our way and get us to where we’re going.
Success will be different for different people, but in general, success is finding out what God wants you to do and doing it.
Become a Coach
Empower Forward has developed an informal network of pastors who wish to be an encouragement and assistance to other pastors and local church leaders in the empowering process. To coach people well and effectively, you need training. The training process is a specialized, comprehensive approach that prepares Christian leaders to effectively coach and develop others. Empower Forward provides experienced, trained and certified coaches to enable you to become an effective certified coach.
Levels of Ministry Coach Training:
Each level of Ministry Coach Certification provided by Empower Forward is a comprehensive training process, which includes coach/trainer mentorship, participation in a group-training event, along with coaching experience and practical skill development. At the conclusion of a 9-month course, you will be required to perform an assessment and be observed and critiqued by the mentor coach/trainer prior to receiving certification.
In further helping equip you as a successful coach, upon certification you will become a member of the Empower Forward coaching network that will provide opportunities for on-going skill development, forum discussions with other Empower Forward coaches and the exchanging of helpful resources.
Level 1 – Certified Ministry Coaching
God has a purpose for each person to accomplish. He has given each of us a part to play in the advance of His kingdom. Empower Forward will help you discover the power of coaching in your life both as a coach and as someone being coached. This training is designed to help you apply the many practical principles and skills introduced in Coaching 101 and the Coaching 101 Handbook (Logan, Carlton & Reinecke), which will begin your journey of becoming an effective coach. You will gain a deeper appreciation of the coaching process of “coming alongside” to help others in the adventure that God has in store for you and those you coach.
Level 2 – Advanced Certified Ministry Coaching
Empower Forward provides an opportunity designed to motivate leaders to excel at an even higher level in coaching. The research-based coaching process, competencies and sound Biblical principles give a comprehensive framework for all your coaching relationships. What makes an excellent coach excellent? How does one measure a coach's competency? Advanced Ministry Coach training, based on the text, Developing Coaching Excellence (Logan & Carlton), will enhance the research-based coaching process, competencies, sound biblical principles, and give a comprehensive framework for all your coaching relationships. You will discover five assessment methods to determine your coaching effectiveness along with a step-by-step process to help you identify action steps in a Personal Development Plan. You will be challenged to master nine coaching competencies that research has shown will help leaders clarify a personal or group mission so they can cooperate with God to advance the Kingdom and achieve their goals. This training workshop is designed for coaches who strive for excellence in coaching. After all, improvement is not something you do only once, but part of the ongoing journey toward excellence.
Fundamental Coach Training (Non-Certified)
Empower Forward will tailor coach training to meet the unique needs of a group desiring to augment a coaching culture. Participants will be given basic understanding of quality coaching skills, become more effective listeners and responders, better equipped to resource, review and create more effective action plans. Importance is placed on developing ministry teams with vision and mission to employ effective disciple-making strategies. This module is useful for those groups not concerned about a process for coach certification.

Strategic Leadership Coaching
Empower Forward will provide coaching driven by the needs of the leader. The achieved results are intentionally based for the immediate and the future.
This relationship between the leader and the coach will explore and discover the leader’s potential and production through specific skill development. This approach to coaching will assist leaders in determining ways to effectively solve challenges in the leader’s role. It will help the leader establish better and more strategic goals, make more informed decisions, improve relationships and focus on building more productive teams. This can also enhance the leader’s personal life, family and ministry.
